Sobey’s suppliers showcase how zero waste and regenerative practices are creating the food companies of the future
"On April 14, 2021, fourteen Ontario-based Sobeys Inc. suppliers showcased how they grow and make food sustainably in a virtual pitch competition, in front of over 50 food industry leaders from across Canada including local politicians, government representatives, investors, and distributors. This event marked the graduation of these companies from the first cohort of Sobeys R-Purpose MICRO, a 12-week intensive program to help early-stage food and beverage companies accelerate their growth by becoming more purpose-driven, sustainable and circular."

Louise Prete Food is food for sharing.
Today, the goal of Louise Prete Food goes beyond creating the best-tasting pasta sauce on the market. Louise Prete Food founder, Michael Malleau shares his most cherished memories with his Nonna, Louise Prete, whom he named his company after.
“Many wonderful hours were spent in the kitchen with Louise Prete learning how to cook. She said, ‘to be a good cook, you need to keep it simple and let the ingredients speak for themselves.’ Louise Prete taught us to practice generosity and that there’s always room for another seat at the table.”
Thanks to this memory of his Nonna, Louise Prete Food founder, Michael Malleau shifted his company under a new purpose and committed to supporting local farmers and communities amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Never before has this lesson from Nonna become more relevant in these uncertain times. This commitment was made with regular donations to Louise Prete Food’s non-profit partner, the Parkdale Community Food Bank.
With this new redirection, Michael rebranded his packaging and redesigned his website, louiseprete.com, shifting the focus of his message to educating the consumer on his new purpose of sharing Louise Prete’s philosophy that there is always room for another seat at the table.
The new launch brought Lousie Prete Food’s 1,000,000 meal challenge to life. Their vision is that there is always food to share. Every time you buy their product, they donate a meal to help make the world hunger-free through their partnership with the Parkdale Community Food Bank. Food banks continue to combat the immediate needs of those affected by the effects of COVID-19. Since 2020, Louise Prete Food has donated 2,200 meals so far and counting. The plan is to team up with their retail suppliers, distributors and consumers to work together and achieve this goal.
“Innovation may be trending in the food industry today, but sometimes it’s best not to mess with a good thing. We keep our values aligned with Louise Prete’s Vision. We need your support to help make it happen. Louise Prete Food’s pasta sauce is made in the traditional family way; supporting local farmers, simple ingredients, and supporting our local communities. Real pasta sauce - like Nonna used to make - should not change. That is our product and promise.”
Currently, Louise Prete Food pasta sauce is available in Ontario.
